Hybrid Work and the Effect on Employee Well-Being

The rapid conversion to working from home was one of many significant changes to the workplace precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. While some employees are now returning to the workplace, many more are expected to continue to spend a greater proportion of their time working remotely, through “hybrid” models that split time between the workplace and remote working.1 This model extends employers’ responsibility for their employees beyond the work premises.

One necessary change to consider is the impact of employment and work on psychological health. Taking a proactive approach to the emotional impact of the pandemic and return to the workplace positions employers as key players in supporting workers’ mental well-being.2 In our reports below, we review the current scientific evidence regarding mental well-being in the workplace in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and highlight key findings that can be implemented.
