Getting Active Together

Wellness activities are an important part of any person’s health and well-being. Doing activities as a group can create a sense of togetherness, while also promoting better physical and mental health. Here are some ideas for wellness activities you can do with others:

  • Bootcamp classes: During bootcamp classes, you typically perform a variety of exercises (e.g. running, jumping, squats, lunges, push-ups, etc.) that target different muscle groups. The goal of these classes is to challenge you to push your physical limits to help you reach your fitness goal. It’s also a fun and effective way to stay motivated as a group.
  • Group fitness class: Group fitness classes can be a fun way to get active and stay motivated. There are a variety of different classes available, from Pilates to spinning, so most people can find something that works for them.
  • Hiking: Going outside and getting some fresh air can be an excellent way to clear your head and take a break from everyday life. Hiking provides a great opportunity to explore nature and even learn something new. Depending on the terrain, trails can range from easy to difficult, so it’s important to plan ahead to ensure that everyone is prepared.
  • Meditation: Meditation is a fantastic way to clear your mind and reduce stress. It’s also an effective activity to do as a group, as it can help to build connections between people and encourage positive energy.
  • Yoga: Yoga helps you relax and get in touch with your physical and mental well-being. It’s also an efficient group activity, as it requires little equipment and can be done anywhere. The best part is that pretty much everyone can get involved – regardless of their fitness level.

Participating in these activities together can be a great way to build relationships, stay physically and mentally healthy, and just have some fun. Here are some of the benefits of getting active as a group:

  • Feel more motivated1
  • Be more adventurous1
  • Be more consistent1
  • More committed to your goals2
  • Push yourself to work harder2
  • Usually safer2

As with starting any exercise program, contact your doctor for advice and support.

Expert Opinion
Physical activity is not only essential to keep your body fit and your heart healthy, but it also helps you to lose weight.

“A problem shared really is a problem halved when it comes to joining a fitness activity”, says Valentina Veronelli, Nurse Case Manager at Cigna HealthcareSM. “We’re still recovering from isolation following the COVID-19 pandemic. Exercising with others will help to create new connections and will also boost your mental health. It’s always good to share energies. A smile from someone sitting next to you can be super powerful! Just remember to choose an activity you know you'll enjoy, to give yourself the best chance of sticking to it,” she adds.
